Southern Cross Dental Laboratories (SCDL), a global leader in state of the art fixed and removable prosthodontics, Invisalign and clinical education, announces an exciting distribution agreement that will see it market, sell and provide support for Cadent’s iTero Digital Impression System in Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Intra-oral scanning, while still an emerging technology, plays a critical role in enabling new digital processes in dental practices, including CAD/CAM for restorative dentistry. The iTero scanner, with almost two decades of research and development behind it, utilizes parallel confocal technology to digitally capture oral structures in 3 dimensions, removing the need for coating powder that is common to other digital impression systems. With the aid of audio-visual prompts, magnified real-time video and 3D virtual model articulation during the scanning process, the iTero also functions as an educational feedback device, allowing for immediate adjustment of any deficient preparation areas. The resultant benefits are significant: better fitting restorations, fewer remakes, material cost savings, reduced chair-time and improved patient comfort.
The new agreement provides SCDL with an ever greater opportunity to deliver further added value to GPs and surgical specialists. With its complete in-house digital workflow, unique clinical demonstration centre, and dedicated team of expert dentists involved in the provision of iTero training, SCDL continues to advance its position in digital dentistry. Earlier this year, Align Technology, Inc. announced Invisalign integration with Cadent's OrthoCAD iOC system and is expected to announce iTero’s interoperability this spring, enabling accredited general practitioners to submit 3D digital scans for crown and bridgework as well as Invisalign treatment.
Dr David Penn, Managing Director of SCDL, noted "We are committed to being at the forefront of technology and providing a seamless digital work flow for both crown and bridgework and orthodontics through Invisalign. The use of intra-oral scanners will allow us to move electronic data efficiently and to produce optimal quality outcomes for patients at realistic prices. SCDL will be unique in that we house a model making facility in our Hong Kong production centre – this allows a physical model and final restoration to be produced from an electronically scanned impression at the one facility, speeding up the manufacturing process."
